Bathroom countertops can be made of tile, laminate, or cultured marble. If a countertop is made of tile or laminate, there may be a sink installed into the countertop. With very few exceptions, if the countertop is made of cultured marble and there is a sink, that sink will not be removable because it is actually a part of the countertop, making the sink and countertop one continuous piece of molded surface.
Cultured marble is man-made, and one of the problem areas with it is that over time, hairline cracks will start to develop near the drain. This is perfectly characteristic of how cultured marble breaks down, due to the hot and cold water coming out of the spout and hitting directly onto the surface at the drain area. We can repair cultured marble, but because the countertop and sink are one molded piece, the entire unit must be refinished afterward to hide and seal the repair.
